Terms of use

Plain language, and shorter than most. Using the site means these apply.

The short version

Typecase is a free set of text tools. Use them for whatever you like, including commercial work. Nothing you type is collected. Nothing here is guaranteed to work, and if it does not, the site cannot be held liable. That is essentially the whole agreement; the rest is detail.

What the service is

Typecase converts text you type into styled Unicode characters, entirely inside your browser. There is no account, no subscription and no server-side processing. The site is provided free of charge and may be changed, moved or discontinued at any time without notice.

The text you type, and the text you get out

Whatever you type stays yours. It is never transmitted to this site, so no claim over it is made or could be made. The converted output is equally yours — the characters come from the Unicode standard, which no one owns, and there is no licence, credit or attribution required to use what comes out of these tools. Use it in a bio, a logo mock-up, a client project or anything else.

The site itself

The written guides, page copy, design and code on this site are the work of its operator and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to link to any page, quote a reasonable extract with attribution, or view the source to learn from it. Republishing the guides wholesale, or copying the site to run as your own, is not permitted.

The three typefaces used here — Fraunces, Public Sans and IBM Plex Mono — are licensed under the SIL Open Font License and remain the property of their designers.

Acceptable use

The tools are simple and there is not much to misuse, but for the avoidance of doubt, do not use this site to:

  • Impersonate another person or organisation, including by using styled characters to imitate a name or handle that is not yours.
  • Evade a platform's moderation, word filters or content rules.
  • Produce text intended to harass a person, or to disrupt a service — for example, flooding a channel with heavily stacked combining characters.
  • Automate bulk requests against the site in a way that degrades it for others.

Styled text is a decorative tool. The uses above are not what it is for, and some of them will get you banned from the platform you use them on.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. No promise is made that a given style will render correctly on a given device, that a platform will accept it, that it will look the same to everyone, or that the site will be available at any particular moment. Font support varies between devices and platforms change their rules without telling anyone, including this site.

The guides describe how platforms behaved when written and are kept current as far as is practical, but they are general information rather than a guarantee, and certainly not legal, professional or business advice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it — including a bio that displayed incorrectly, an account actioned by a platform, a document that failed to parse, or any indirect or consequential loss. If you are relying on text output for something that matters, check it first.

Third-party links and advertising

Pages here link to external platforms for reference. Those sites have their own terms and privacy practices, and this site is not responsible for their content. If advertising is introduced in future, ads are supplied by a third-party network and their presence is not an endorsement of what they promote; the privacy policy will be updated before any advertising goes live.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top changes when they are, and continuing to use the site after that means the revised version applies.
